Jessica & Joshua

I had the pleasure of working with a lovely & sweet couple, Jessica & Joshua! We originally scheduled to shoot in Coto de Caza, but ended up in Palos Verdes Estates, and I’m happy we did, as the lighting was incredible! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful, golden light!  Jessica looked stunning in her evening gown, and angelic in her white dress…and of course her fiance, Joshua handsome and such a good sport!  I had  a great time getting to know these two beautiful people, and their love for one another shines through in every photo!  Thank you both for such a wonderful session! I feel so honored to have captured these priceless memories that will last a lifetime! Congratulations!

Check back often, I’ll be adding more in the coming days. 🙂

Photo Session with Harper <3

This evening’s photo session with Harper was so much fun! What a beautiful and happy baby she is! Paige & Jeremy, you are great parents! Thanks for trusting in me to capture these priceless memories!

Here are a “Few” favorites. Check back, because I am sorting through and editing hundreds of photos, there will definitely be more photos to share!

The Portillo Family Revisited <3

Every now and then I love to take a stroll down memory card lane (ok, my external hd, but memory card sounds so much better lol), and revisit some older work to reflect the styles I’m channeling today.  I am a HUGE fan of Analog filters and thought these photos deserved some special “Updated” touches.  Isn’t that funny, how we strive to make our new photos look dated?  I love the way these turned out, so much that I had to share here on my photo blog!   This family is near and dear to my heart, my great friends of over 29 years and I was the lucky one who had the honor and pleasure of photographing.  These were  their first family photos with Stephanie!  It’s a long story, but a heart warming story indeed of a family united!  Such happy & fun expressions, and some that only best friends will understand.

Love you all~

❤ Kim

Paige & Audrey

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing so many lovely families, including the Fuller shoot from April of this year.  I love revisiting my archives and re-working some older images, some I might have even missed altogether become my new favorite shots, such is the case with one of the below photos of Audrey looking down.  I added a vintage rose filter to give it a ageless beauty, like a Victorian Painting.  Adding special touch, like adding toning/filters can really transform an image!

I am SO looking forward to our upcoming shoot of Audrey’s baby sister, Harper who is a beauty just like her Mom and big Sister!  Stay tuned for that! Such a beautiful family!

Monday Morning Nature Walk

The June Gloom cleared early this morning, so I was up bright and early and felt like going on a nature walk with my camera.  The morning light was so nice with a few puffy clouds, which seemed to give all the animals an energy boost (as well as myself).  The squirrels were chasing each other up and down the trees, and one paid me a brief visit. The Western Bluebirds were busy feeding their young, and the Grackles were noisily following my every move.  My husband and son were fishing while I was exploring. While I caught some nice moments, they didn’t catch a single fish, not even a nibble to be had.

Here are some of my favorite shots.

Enjoy. 🙂

Canadian Goslings & Other Things

These photos and videos were taken earlier today at El Dorado Park. ❤

Canadian Geese come to Southern Ca. every year for their winter/spring destination and obviously breeding grounds away from the harsh cold of Canada. These  precious Goslings were very well protected by Mom & Dad.  They are so adorable how they clumsily follow their parents around, and copy everything they see Mom and Dad do! I just love how fluffy & puffy their downy feathers are.  I couldn’t get any closer as there was another Goose of some kind that was REALLY protective of the goslings.  This  confused me at first because I couldn’t figure out who the mom was, but the babies stayed next to the Canadian Geese and not the other goose that was tagging along. I’ve never seen another type of bird protect the offspring of another bird before. They all seemed to get along…reminds me of that saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”, maybe in the goose world that might be true, as for us humans, I strongly believe it’s the parents job, but that’s another topic for another forum. 🙂

There really wasn’t much going on at the park aside from the adorable fluffballs, so I just focused on subjects that most of the time get looked over.  You’ll notice that I have a thing for baby leaves.  It’s a theme you will find throughout my blog.  They are always so beautiful to me, colored so differently from the rest of the tree/plants, they just look so dainty and elegant.  I also got a shot of an Osprey circling way above the lake.  It’s moments like that I really wish I had a longer zoom lens, at least a 300mm, but for now, I”ll just have to settle with my 200mm. 😉

Enjoy!

Correa Wedding Slideshow

For Ashley & Ritchie. Much Love! ❤

You’ll notice I added two photos at the very beginning taken by Ricardo. I know he would be very happy that his photos were added to your love story.  He was very talented, and such a kind soul. ❤

Head Shots

I LOVE shooting head shots! Something about the up close and personal details, I just love, especially the details on the eyes that really says a lot about a person without saying anything at all.   The right lighting, angle  and with the right amount of shadows is really important.   On my last Maternity Shoot, I took some head shots  of such a beautiful mother and her equally beautiful daughter which I will share here and also a few from the past that will always be on my list of favorites. 🙂  If you would like to schedule some head shots, now’s the time to do it with this incredible weather we’ve been having or we can always shoot in my studio. 🙂

Spring Visitor

Yesterday I made a post on Instagram of our blooming Milkweed and said “Bring on the butterflies”…well I guess they heard me!! Just a little while ago I was visited by a beautiful Monarch Butterfly and was lucky to grab a few shots.

I LOVE spring! My water lily is about to bloom too as well as my Princess Di Tea Rose.  Stay tuned for those. 🙂

Enjoy. 🙂

The Fuller Family Maternity Session @Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park

What more can a photographer ask for than perfect weather, perfect lighting and beautiful scenery?  Well, for starters,  a gorgeous Mother-to-Be, her handsome husband and beautiful daughter!!!  I had an amazing and fun photo session last night at Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park.  Paige, Jeremy & Audrey were amazing photo subjects and such wonderful sports as I shuffled them back and forth between hiking trails, finding the best spots for their family photos.   Paige looked stunning in her white gown and flower crown, what a gorgeous mom! Audrey takes after her mom and is so incredibly photogenic, and of course Jeremy is very handsome and fun…it was a perfect day!

I get so excited to do these shoots..from start to finish, the entire process is so much fun.   I am sharing some of my personal favorites that I have worked on so far, and will be adding more as I finish them.

Thank you again to Paige & Jeremy for choosing me to capture your precious memories that will last a lifetime! Congratulations! I can’t wait to meet baby Fuller when she arrives! ❤

Travis on the Mound 3-30-17

I love sports photography. I’ve been shooting baseball games since my boys were in T-Ball (10 years ago) and it quickly became a passion of mine.  I’ve met some great kids through the years who played ball with my boys, and Travis is one of them. He is a fantastic pitcher, you can tell from every photo how intensely he concentrates. He is a lot of fun to photograph!!  Here are some shots of the Fighting Irish starting pitcher today, Travis Wilson.  Thank you to his parents for trusting in me to capture these memories that will last a lifetime.

Saturday at the Park

I tagged along with my husband and son on their fishing trip to El Dorado Park this evening and brought my camera with me. Not a whole lot was going on, but I did take some time photographing the resident Geese.  They can be pretty mean, but today they were in a good mood, one spent a lot of time posing for me.

My son pointed out a Grackle on the lid of a trashcan and I got a couple shots of some Western Bluebirds, other than that, it was pretty quiet, windy and cold. There weren’t many flowers blooming in section III of the park, but a few Rock Roses and Mexican Lavender (which I didn’t bother with since there weren’t any hummingbirds feeding on them).  Other than that, it was pretty low key at the park today.

I am really wanting to venture out and explore new areas. I plan on visiting Santiago Oaks Regional Park, Oak Canyon Nature Center, Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park, Irvine Regional Park to name a few. It’s been a while since I’ve visited these beautiful places. I have a maternity session coming up, that I cannot wait. I’ve been researching some beautiful locations for this shoot to compliment such a beautiful expectant mother!  I will be sharing those within the coming weeks. 🙂

That’s all for now.  🙂

A Gorgeous Day at Mission San Juan Capistrano

It’s been a couple years since I’ve walked the grounds of the Jewel of the California Mission’s, Mission San Juan Capistrano. They don’t call it the “Jewel” for nothing, it is a very beautiful Mission indeed (my favorite).  The flowers were not in full bloom, but they are definitely blooming and so beautiful. I plan to go back in May when spring is in full swing. I saw one Monarch Butterfly today, but it was camera shy, so I really want to go back for some butterfly shots. I did, however, get a shot of a very outgoing Blue Bellied Lizard flexing his muscles for me, and showing off his beautiful blueish/purple scales! I’ve never seen a lizard like that before!  🙂

Here are some of my favorite shots of today. I used both my Canon Mark III and my iPhone 6s+. I am continually impressed with the quality of my iPhone. I used the iPhone for some of the landscape & architecture shots, and my MIII for the florals. 🙂 Enjoy!

Sunday Photo Session

I had a wonderful time shooting family photos for this beautiful family. I can’t wait for our next session at the end of the month. Here are some of my personal favorites. All shot indoors at the beach with gorgeous natural lighting (and a few with fill flash).  Enjoy

Renew

Every now and then I take a trip down memory lane by browsing through my huge archive of photos from the past 16 years. I started my interest in photography long before I was a mother, but as soon as my first child was born that was when my interest became a hobby, and eventually my business.  I love to reminisce through all my photos most importantly to reflect on my boy’s childhood and to (cry) marvel in how much they have grown.  There’s always a story to be told with each photo. Some photos make me laugh, others make me cry and some make me scratch my head thinking, “Why didn’t and do anything with these photos before?”.  Some photos just didn’t grab my attention back when I first shot them, but tonight I came across a few that really stood out and begged for some special touches. This series is called “Renew” which I will share here and add more as I work on them.  Working on these photos rekindled a passion for floral photography.  I guess it’s time for new projects and new memories with my new camera.

Sweet Baby Anson

My Great Nephew Anson Noel Reza was born on September 24, 2016.  I got to bring my camera over and snap up a few shots of him when he was a newbie.  I also took more photos for Christmas. I can’t wait for our next shoot. He’s such a precious, sweet and wonderful baby! Auntie Kim loves you!fba56481ae3d9d19bc6a18d19c127de5

Ryan & Heavenly Engagement Session

Sunday, December 11th was a cloudy day inland but down at Huntington Beach, the lighting was dramatic, beautiful and bright…perfect for engagement photos of a stunning couple.  Ryan and Heavenly will be marrying in July, 2017 and I am the lucky one who got to capture their engagement memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations Ryan & Heavenly! ❤

Ashley & Ritchie 12-22-16

I had the honor of photographing my Niece, Ashley’s wedding up in Santa Rosa, California on December 22, 2016.  The wedding was beautiful, and amazing that my sister, niece, her husband along with their friends planned this wedding in 3 months!  The Groom’s Best Man was going overseas for two years, so they wanted to get married so that the Best Man could be at the wedding.  This was my first time shooting a wedding, and I did so all by myself. Considering the wedding party had decided to go off venue 30 minutes before the wedding was due to start to do the wedding party photos, and forgot their flowers, the photos turned out pretty darn good if I say so myself…even without the flowers!  🙂  Ashley & Ritchie, congratulations again. Here is to a lifetime of love and happiness!  Enjoy your photos. I will be adding more as I sort through them. ❤

Jenna & Joe 9-18-16

I was a candid photographer at a beautiful wedding in Huntington Beach on September 18th.  It was a gorgeous fall day, perfect weather coupled with a beautiful couple to photograph. Every where I looked there was a photo opportunity waiting for me.  I will be posting more photos as I sort though them. Thanks again to the beautiful bride and handsome Groom and here’s to a lifetime of happiness!

This and That…and a Frisky Cat (or 3)!

Just a few photos I wanted to share. First, our Water Hyacinths bloomed  yesterday (well one of them).  I’m glad I got the camera  out, because the blooms fade within 24 hours!  They sure are pretty.

The second photo is of one of the photo disc sleeves I offer when ordering a photo disc. They are gorgeous keepsakes. Love the quote on this one.  ❤

My cat Cristo, the Black and White Tuxedo Cat, decided to stalk me while I edit photos. He was laying directly above me on top of my desk (which is a re-purposed amoire).  He was posing for me and I had my camera right there so I had to get a couple shots of him.  He’s gorgeous and I love him, but he’s sure a feisty thing!  I think you can tell he has a feisty streak in him..it’s in the eyes. 🙂

The other photos are of my son Jonathan saying hello to the neighborhood Tom, a new favorite photo of mine

Tomorrow I will be a secondary photographer at my friend’s, daughter’s wedding so I will be sharing the photos here next week. Stay tuned. Have a great weekend everyone!

Maternity Shoot with Kalie

This is my Nephew’s gorgeous partner, Kalie. She is due any time to give birth to my Great Nephew.  She’s a trooper for doing this shoot considering how uncomfortable she is during her last days of pregnancy, and she will cherish these moments forever.  I’m so thankful to be a part of this exciting time!  Thank you Marky and Kalie for letting me capture your special moments! Love you both so much, and we all cannot wait to meet your bundle of joy!

Photoshop Fun!

I love taking photos, but this is what I love the most!

More photos from Kaitlyn & Tony’s special day. I couldn’t wait to share! Enjoy!

New Camera New Material

I recently added a new camera to my arsenal.  I took it out for a “Test Drive” today. I’m still figuring out all the new features compared to my old but trusty Canon 5D. I’m amazed at the quality of images, just in the few I took today.  Here are some of my favorites.  🙂

Barefoot Wedding on the Beach…Kaitlyn & Tony 8-06-16

I had the honor of being one of the photographer’s at a stunning wedding this past Saturday.  Kaitlyn & Tony said their “I Do’s” in a gorgeous ceremony on the beach in Surfside, California.  I have hundreds of photos to sort through, but these are some of my favorites so far and couldn’t wait to share! Check back often, as I will be adding photos as I work on them. 🙂 ❤

Thank you again to the beautiful bride and her handsome groom for including me in your special day. Here’s to forever happiness!

Outing at El Dorado Park

This morning I took a break from furniture refinishing/painting and went over to El Dorado Park with my husband. I figured I could bring my camera gear and do a little bird photography (one of my favorite things to shoot…with a camera that is) 🙂 while the Mr. did a little fishing.  El Dorado Park in Long Beach, CA is a favorite place of mine to do bird photography, especially Western Bluebirds and Birds of Prey.  I’ve always been fascinated with birds, ever since I was about 9 years old when I read book after book and pretty much memorized every bird in the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Southern California Birds-Western Region.  As I grew older, I never lost interest in birds, I grew more fond of them as I aged especially with a newfound passion, photography.  I always say, my favorite photo subjects are children, flowers, birds and pretty much anything related to nature.

Anyways, today was a bit overcast with mottled grey skies and a few patches of blue. The lighting wasn’t the best, but I did take a few share-worthy photos (and actually one is my new favorite bird photo).

Here are some Western Bluebirds frolicking in the Maple Trees.  I even managed to face my fear of Yellow Jackets and get some photos of them on a flowering bush.  Enjoy! 🙂

iPhone Photography

Everyone that knows me, knows my love of photography, but I will let you all in on a little secret…I don’t like carrying my big guns with me wherever I go.  It can be a real pain to lug around two camera bags with all my gear, not to mention, it could be a very costly mistake (theft, accidental drops etc), so what is the next best solution?  Yeah, a P&S (point and shoot) camera can fit in my purse but it’s still not very convenient for me.  So, the next best solution is to invest in a great smartphone with nice camera as it’s always on hand wherever I go. You can’t go wrong with an iPhone, that’s for sure.  I also own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which is decent too, but I’m partial to Apple, I feel the photo quality in iPhone’s are hard to beat especially the exposure, low noise and sharpness.

My husband and I were in Westlake Village for our Nephew’s engagement party this past weekend.   We stayed at an absolutely stunning hotel,  The Four Season’s Westlake Village.  This is probably one of the nicest, if not THE nicest hotel’s I’ve ever stayed at.  Everywhere you look there is a beautiful photo subject waiting for you, from murals on the ceiling, gorgeous chandeliers, to their stunning pools and Japanese Gardens.  I didn’t have my big guns with me, but did have my iPhone 6s+ charged and ready for rapid fire.  Here are a few of my favorite shots. I am sure I missed many photo opportunities, but I’m happy with the ones I was able to capture.  Enjoy!
